Forward Madison FC in their inaugural season home opener vs. Greenville Triumph at Breese Stevens Field in Madison Wisconsin. Forward Madison FC belongs to the USL League One (USL1) which is a professional men's soccer league in the United States and Canada that began its inaugural season in 2019.

Capturing this event for me all came down to one pivotal evening. I was leaving the office at Sentry Insurance in Middleton, where I worked for the Dairyland Division. With my camera gear in hand, I was headed to McClimon to photograph the Wisconsin Badgers Women’s Soccer match. As I was heading out, my VP Pete was leaving at the same time.

Knowing that Forward Madison, a new USL League One team coming to town, would likely be looking for sponsors, I saw an opportunity. I pitched the idea to Pete that Sentry/Dairyland could sponsor the team, much like my previous employer, American Family Insurance, had sponsored Atlanta United. Since Pete currently played in a local adult league soccer, I figured he might be open to the suggestion.

His response was beyond encouraging: "That's a really great idea. No, really, that's an excellent idea. I'll look into it." And from there, the rest is history, with our Dairyland logo proudly displayed on their jerseys. Before leaving the parking lot to capture the Badgers, I immediately texted my wife to share the news and kept that message as proof of the moment. ;)
